Representing Rock Stars: Reconnecting with Entertainment Lawyer Michelle N. Jubelirer From the time she was a summer associate, Michelle N. Jubelirer ('99-'03) has had her sights set on being an entertainment lawyer. Fast forward a decade, and she is now living her dream in Los Angeles, as a partner at the firm of King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, LLP Michelle counts among her clients some of the hottest names in the music industry, including Ke$ha, M.I.A., Marilyn Manson, The Gossip, Damian Marley, Buckcherry, Tommy Lee, K'naan and House OJ Roger Sanchez. She also represents actors, writers, and fashion deSigners, including Brian Reyes. Michelle handles the lull range of entertainment-related legal work for her celebrity clients, including recording agreements, sponsorships, endorsements, and publishing, television and movie contracts. |
What Michelle loves about her work is the creative, entrepreneurial, ever-changing nature of entertainment law. "There is no one-size fits all formula in my field," she explains. "Because each client's needs are so different, I work closely with managers and agents to tailor a legal and business strategy that is unique to every client."
Michelle arrived at her dream position through a combination of extremely hard work and carefully planned moves. After four years in the Firm's mergers and acquisitions practice, Michelle left to join the Legal Affairs Department of Sony Entertainment Group. At Sony, she learned the "ins and outs" of crafting entertainment contracts. Two years later, the time was right for Michelle to move across the country to join King, Holmesone of the best-known entertainment law firms in Los Angeles. She became a partner in 2008.
After nine years in New York and a lifetime on the East Coast, Michelle still misses the hustle and bustle and grit of New York City, but Los Angeles is finally starting to feel like home. She hikes in Runyon Canyon, shops on Melrose Place and attends various Grammy events every year. Hey, it's all just part of the job.
